What happens with the elusive cycle of the yo-yo diet?

Let me go into what happens, then I will break it down and decode it for you.

 

The cycle goes like this….

 

Person doesn’t like the way they look or feel and focus to lose weight. They might want to look good for an event, bikini season so they have an end in mind.

What happens with the yo-yo diet is that when they succeed at their goal, they often slide back into old ways. Causing weight gain again.

The simple part of it is that is…as humans we are motivated by pain or pleasure.

Pain tends to be the trigger for getting things into motion, because we tend to move farther away from pain.

With yo-yo diets the pain is not feeling good, or liking the way the look (most common). That is painful! It will get you going.

So their strategy is “pain will get me motivated to lose weight”.

Now one way falling back can be altered, is by shifting their pain and pleasure once the goal is achieved.

If pain is the motivator  for making healthy changes… the habitual pattern will tend to revert to gaining weight and feeling awful to trigger any action.

 

The SECRET to breaking this cycle is behavior and habit based.

 

The secret is… once the goal of getting to the ideal weight is achieved, link pleasure in maintaining it. Verses, waiting for pain to happen to make changes.

Is it simple. Yes. Easy? It can be challenging, yet that is the key.

Majority of healthy living is keeping it simple and learning about you, and how amazing you are.
