As you know, I do not follow any one specific diet. I blend many of them to fit my lifestyle…to keep it fun.  What I do follow is listening to my body and avoiding to the best of my ability inflammatory foods.

I am about to share 3 healthy swaps with you right now!

1. Sugar

Sugar is sweet to look at, but not to eat a bunch of it. I am talking about the refined sugars and hidden sugars. It creates havoc to your body, so it’s best to find alternatives.

Healthy Swap #1 – Maple Syrup

If you are going to use a sweet alternative that is not sugar free like stevia, look into maple syrup.

I am not saying that because I happen to be from Canada (and no I do not say eh?”) but because maple syrup has health benefits. It has antioxidants, is lower glycemic, fights inflammation and can improve your digestion. 

My favorite brands of syrup are, Coombs and Butternut Mountain Farm

You can swap out 1 cup of refined white sugar with 3/4 cup of pure maple syrup.

 

2. Peanut Butter

Peanut butter can be inflammatory to the system, and even though its name has the word nut in it….it’s a legume. Not a nut. How nutty!

They can be hard to digest, and a key element for health and feeling great is your digestion. Nurture that.

Peanuts also have a higher ratio of omega 6 to omega 3’s. This can contribute to more inflammation! Yikes!

Healthy Swap #2-Almond Butter

My choice of a healthy swap is an actual nut butter made with almonds. Almond butter.

Almond butter contains magnesium, antioxidants (vitamin E) and can lower cholesterol. It can also help with blood sugar control and curb your appetite. Most natural almond butter is minimally processed and do not contain added sugars.

An online favorite is 365 everyday  Check out your local Sam’s Club, or Trader Joe’s. They usually carry quality almond butter.

 

3. White Flour

If you are still using this stuff, please do your research on how this affects your health.

A few things that can happen in a diet with excess white flour are, obesity, inflammation, cardiovascular disease and… worse.

We live in such an amazing time where there are so many options.

Healthy Swap #3 – Almond Flour 

Since I am a cheerleader for almonds already, I like almond flour. Which is ground up almonds. The health benefits I went over with almond butter.

While it does take some time to get used to cooking with almond flour, the rewards are worth it.  Your tummy and your body will LOVE you for it. Take care of your body, it’s where you live.

A great one that you can purchase online is King Arthur. You local store should carry it also. A trusted brand is Rob Mill’s Product Line,
